EPAL Pallet

EPAL Pallet – the European Passport for Your Goods

The EPAL pallet is the most recognizable logistics carrier on the continent. Its 1200 × 800 mm format, four-way forklift entry, and the distinctive oval “EPAL” mark branded into the block make it a universal “currency” in warehouses, distribution centers, and rail ramps from Lisbon to Helsinki. Each pallet follows uniform quality standards and is accepted within an open exchange system—buy once, then simply exchange.

How is an original EPAL pallet made?

1. Raw material selection
Softwood sourced from FSC-certified forests. Moisture content ≤ 22% ensures dimensional stability and prevents mold.
2. Heat treatment (HT)
Pallets go into the kiln, where they reach 56 °C for 30 minutes during the drying process to achieve full HT compliance. The process meets ISPM 15 standards, making the pallet ready for export outside the EU.
3. Cutting
An automated sawing line cuts every element with ±1 mm precision. As a result, blocks and stringers fit perfectly, ensuring consistent dimensions and performance.
4. Automated assembly
Exactly 78 spiral nails (DIN 1052) are driven in with precise spacing to guarantee uniform strength.
5. Marking and quality control
Left block – EPAL mark; right block – IPPC mark; center block – manufacturer code and year. A random sample from every batch undergoes daily quality inspections.

Where do EPAL pallets perform best?

Automotive – strong enough to carry engines, gearboxes, and injection molds.
E-commerce – compatible with roller conveyors and sorters, reducing order fulfillment lead time.
Intermodal transport – perfectly fits a 20′ container or flat wagon crate.
